SUL CENACOLO DI BUSONI A BERLINO (1902)
E SU BUSONI PIANISTA

Bruno Götz (1885-1954) fu scrittore, saggista, poeta e
drammaturgo svizzero. Conobbe Busoni nel 1917 a Zurigo.


Quelle che udivo non erano più le stesse opere, erano eteree visioni sonore che trasparivano da queste opere, così come i Maestri che le avevano create potevano averle concepite dentro di sé, prima di mettere su carta quel che avevano percepito nel loro intimo... Sia dal punto di vista tecnico che da quello musicale, egli le rendeva con fedeltà assoluta. Pure, senza curarsi affatto di tutte le usuali tradizioni esecutive, le ricreava come se provenissero nuovamente dalla sorgente originale; ed esse apparivano nuove e sconosciute,, quasi che risuonassero per la prima volta. La primavera del 1902 la trascorse in giro per il mondo. Da Londra a Torino, da Firenze a Trieste. In maggio di nuovo a Londra e a Parigi, dove Ysaÿe e Pugno gli eseguirono la Sonata per violino e pianoforte. Quindi il Maestro potè ritirarsi finalmente a Berlino per dar vita ai tanti progetti che si erano venuti accumulando nel suo cervello durante gli interminabili viaggi. Gerda era in villeggiatura. A Berlino erano rimasti pochi amici, fra i quali, fedelissimi, Emilio Anzoletti e qualche ex-allievo di Weimar, di Vienna, di Basilea. Si ricreò così intorno al Maestro il cenacolo spirituale. Su queste riunioni ecco quanto scrisse Bruno Goetz, assiduo frequentatore del circolo busoniano:

Per quanti questo cenacolo fu un rifugio! Per quanti esso rappresentò un'isola santa in mezzo alla marea in tempesta di quei tempi! Quanti argomenti decisivi, profondi, consolanti vi si sono trattati, e anche quante risa e quali scherzi! In quella piccola sala tutti si sentivano lontani dal mondo e ne uscivano come rinnovati. Chi entrava in questo circolo si sentiva liberare dalle strettoie della vita ed era incitato a fare, a creare. Era come vivere in un vortice di fiamma che tutte le energie sfruttava al massimo.... Tutti si sentivano dominati e sorretti da quel viso di scultura in legno da chiesa gotica.

Riga-born Swiss writer Bruno Goetz (1885-1954) met Busoni in Zürich in the spring of 1917, on the occasion of the rehearsals of Arleechino, BV 270, and Turandot, BV 273, and became a member of the celebrated runder Tisch. The article is followed by a separate section containing four anecdotes about Busoni.

Part of the issue published on the occasion of the first performance of 'Doktor Faust', BV 303. Briefly compares Busoni's 'Faust' with Goethe's. Says that Busoni's greatest insight is that implication with evil does not harm the eternal will of what is noble. Concludes that Busoni's Faust has become an expression of the religiosity of its time.
